Volunteer Spotlight – Denver Executive Erin Amerlan to Serve as 2023 Heart & Stroke Walk Chair

We’re so excited to announce that Erin Amerlan, Managing Director, Enterprise & Operational Risk Management at Charles Schwab will serve as the event chair for the 2023 Denver Heart & Stroke Walk which will be held on Saturday, June 3 at Sloan’s Lake Park.

Erin has been involved with the American Heart Association for over 15 years. Read on to learn a little more about Erin and what she’s most excited about with the Heart & Stroke Walk this year.

What’s your why for serving as the chair of the Denver Heart Walk?
My why started on a very personal level. I became involved about 15 years ago, as a walker. Heart disease runs in my family, I have hereditary high cholesterol, and my son has heart issues. As I have learned more over the years on the impact the American Heart Association makes in the communities they serve, my why has become that much stronger. Access to quality food and healthcare should be a right, not a privilege and the organization works hard to create equity.

What are your favorite parts about Heart Walk?
I love the anticipation of the start and feeling the excitement that builds in the crowd. However, the thing I love most is seeing all the survivors walking, giving us all hope and courage to continue the fight.

How long have you served as a volunteer for the American Heart Association?
I became the Executive Sponsor of the Charles Schwab Heart Walk team six years ago. I saw it as an opportunity to work across our campus in Lone Tree to rally support among our employees for an important cause that impacts so many. I have been participating as a member of the Denver Heart Walk Executive Leadership Team for the last five years, learning so much along the way.

What are you most looking forward to during your chair year?
I am really excited for the opportunity to work with other Denver executives to drive progress, meet walkers in the community as we rally around a common mission, and working with the staff at the American Heart Association to host a fun, successful Walk.

What would you like to say to those companies/individuals who join you in making a significant investment of time and resources into the American Heart Association?
There are so many benefits a company can create by supporting the American Heart Association and the Denver Heart & Stroke Walk. It is a great way to show you care about employees’ well-being and create team building opportunities, all while supporting critical research and community outreach. It is an extremely worthwhile investment in company time and resources.
