Two Educational Webinars Focus on Stroke and AFib

Knowledge and management of heart-related risk factors and conditions are critical in reducing the likelihood of and improving outcomes with stroke, especially across populations with health disparities. Through the Getting to the Heart of Stroke initiative, the American Heart Association and HealthONE are working together on a new program focused on clinical training, community, and patient education, as well as diagnosis and treatment.

Through this collaboration, the two organizations are working to empower community members to know and better manage their stroke risk. In addition, the initiative aims to provide the community with educational resources for patients with AFib (atrial fibrillation), which is known to increase stroke risk by up to five times.

One of the ways the organizations will work to educate patients is through a series of upcoming webinars. Details about the webinars can be found below:

  • AFib Educational Webinar on Thursday, Sept. 7 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.
    • The webinar will be hosted by Dr. Christopher Porterfield, MD, MPH with Aurora Denver Cardiology Associates, and Dr. Takiyah R. Wilson, vice president of Community Impact with the American Heart Association.
    • Attendees will learn more about AFib, the warning signs, risk factors, treatments, and have the opportunity ask questions.

  • Stroke Educational Webinar on Tuesday, Sept. 26 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.
    • The webinar will be hosted by Dr. Jeffrey Wagner, MD with HealthONE Neurology Specialists, and Dr. Takiyah R. Wilson, vice president of Community Impact with the American Heart Association.
    • Attendees will learn more about different types of strokes, the warning signs, risk factors, treatments, and have the opportunity ask questions.
